When listening to Loe Shimmy rap, you become enamored with how the texture of his voice. Its flexibility in delivery and Loe‘s beat choices keeps it from getting stale. Fast pace drums, hollowing background vocals, and haunting strings on “Wake Em Up” make it feel filthy. On “Playboi Carti,” the airy soundstage of the beat puts additional pressure on his voice, despite how laid back he is. “Falling” is the continuation of banger after banger, but something is different.

Loe Shimmy is conflicted, shackled by the environment that raised him and the detachment needed to stay alive. His thoughts go from defiant, “I ain’t trying sign no deal bitch/Rather the hit the block with my lil roscoes stuck with a kill switch,” to acceptance, “You ain’t gone be shit you just a trapper killer/stand on business/and they probably right but when I die/my children gonna have millions.” A record deal won’t heal everything, but it will take care of the ones he loves the most.
