Midwest Millz is an unsung hero from Cincinnati, Ohio. His talent is known throughout the minds who are tapped in, but he has yet to reach a truly mainstream moment. This doesn’t worry Millz, he moves best under pressure when it’s time to get to work. I dug a bit deeper to curate a playlist of his ten most recent singles, to not only shine a bit of light on the wave, but to address what the city is missing.

“Dope Boy Summer” is a Detroit inspired slap full of arrogance and rich braggadocios boasts of designer clothes. After the bass rearranges your spine, he takes you on a walk through the kitchen with a brief glance at a blender and a few other culinary accessories. “Cook Up” is the same type of flavor as far as regional instrumentation, but he gets some assistance from Insomniac Gussy on this cut as well. They both speak genuine tales, but don’t breach into a corny pocket or cadence.

There’s such a fine line in between what’s good music and what’s not. To be simple and plain it’s about the feeling the music first evokes, then your judgements will vary from there. The reason we’re here is to showcase Millz’ art, is because it’s just another side of the coin. My life is nothing like this man’s, but I appreciate the honesty and vivid projection of his journey.

With his most recent release “Sick Wit It” he continues to float over a chopped up soulful sample. But this instrumentation still brings out the powerful stanzas that this guy provides time after time. It seems as if this amount of work that has been flooding the streams in 2019 was all apart of the plan. To stay consistent through each release with not only the talent, but the vocab as well, is a feat in itself. Most of these artists will scare off their fans or bore them to death. Midwest Millz is building this thing from the ground up, on his own terms, tap in below.
