When he isn’t writing op eds for the Huffington Post, transposing reflective narratives for Gawker, or rallying for anti-genocide efforts in the Congo, the dude Homeboy Sandman is jumping on tons of features and ramping up the buzz for his new EP. For this particular cut he teams up with Philly’s Truck North on the fresh and heavy Neon Brown produced track “Riot Act.” The tone and instrumental are far more aggressive than what we are used to hearing from the electric emcee Sandman, but The Root’s affiliate Truck North goes in hard and vigorous on the first verse. Sandman goes equally tough, but with more of an emphasis on intellectual wordology and a calm delivery. It takes a few spins but the interwoven celever references have the same impact as the overtly aggravated bars from Truck North. A dope demonstration from both artists that have dropped strong EPs in recent future, Truck’s Our American Cousins and Homeboys Sandman with Subject:Matter and Chimera, and have plans for big releases in the future. Check it.
