Today he sent us this fresh tribute piece in honor of J Dilla for the instrumental icon’s designated day of remembrance A blend of two discovered samples you might recognize from the vault, this reworking pays hommage to the Dilla creative process, while also creating an entirely new take of the deceased beat genius. The impact this man has had on music is incredible. Not only was Dilla the illest, but he had a reputation for being extremely humble and enjoyable to be around. He brought the best out of the artists he worked with, and educated those who he didnt know through his work. The example he has left hiphop is eternal. Plenty of people try and counterfeit the Dilla sound. I try and emulate his humbleness and work ethic. Finding “The Official” and “U-love” samples while digging was a surprise, and as they played thru my monitors, I knew I had to flip them… if only for fun and never to release. The beats came out bangin’, so I decided to blend some frank-n-dank vocals to elevate the track and release for free on DILLA DAY. To celebrate someones life through music is a beautiful thing, and through that I also celebrate the lost ones in my life who had a strong bond with the music James Yancey gave the world. All smiles…I dont know about y’all but imma smoke to this. ONE.
