Over the weekend, the Daily Chiefers had the opportunity to see one of Spotify’s Predicted Music Stars of 2015, PELL, on his Only In Your Dreams tour. This stop on the tour featured artist such as JID, EarthGang, Chaz French, TroopBrand, and Daye Jack. This combination of artist went really well together; aiding in the vibes sent through the crowd that night. Overall, it was a great show with many new and noteworthy artist to look out for.

First to open for the show was TroopBrand and Josias. They did an amazing job building the energy for the night. Their sound was a very smooth and vibey sound which was great for the setting because the vinyl is not only a concert venue but it is also a bar, so people were definitely buzzing due to the mixture of chill music and alcohol.

After that performance, JID performed and brought EarthGang on stage with him. This was tight because it brought the level of the crowd from a calm and chill place to a hype and turnt spot. JID came in with hard rap that was borderline almost trap but still his own style which was very enjoyable.

When he brought up EarthGang, the crowd screamed so loud and pushed the front so fast as if EarthGang was headlining the show! It was awesome to see fans and supporters really show love to their artist who haven’t popped yet.

After that Chaz French came on and kept the crowd level on ten! This man had so much energy, he was very enjoyable to watch. He took a second out of his set to thank PELL for including him on the tour and aso shared with the crowd that he missed his daughter. Other than having good music Chaz French was very personable which made him even more fun to watch and vibe with.

And the last opening act before Pell was Daye Jack. His set was incredible, and being that he is from Atlanta he had a lot of his friends came and showed him love. We were also able to catch up before the show and get an interview Daye Jack.

Dave: So tell, how did you get signed to Warner Bros. Records?

Daye Jack: Let me tell you from the beginning, I first put out a tape on the internet called ‘Hello World’. That was my first piece of music ever put out, and from their I met my managers and I started having meetings and meeting different artist and different people in the music industry. At the same time I was working on ‘Soul Glitch’ which is the EP I put out last summer while going to school in NYU, one day I got a call saying that Warner wanted me to fly out and play some music. So I flew out to meet with  Mike Elizondo who actually signed me to Warner. He flew me out and I played him some demos from ‘Soul Glitch’ and he was feeling that, and I later did another trip like that that led to me getting signed.

Dave: Why was getting signed to Warner a move you wanted to take, instead of being independent?

Daye Jack: For me, that was the best way I could feel like this is serious. Getting signed is like people telling me I’m good enough to make music and with that it made me able to take a risk.

Dave: Last question about Warner, has any man in a suit been in the studio to tell you what to do or do they just let you do your own thing and present it to them?

Daye Jack: Well Mike Elizondo who signed me to Warner is also the executive producer of my album so he’s there like all the time, and some of the songs I’m working on with other producers, he’s touching on and other we actually start from stretch together. So we’re super hands-on together.

Dave: How was it working with Killer Mike on your song “Hands up?”

Daye Jack: Actually, I wasn’t in the studio with him, it was on of those things where I wrote the song, and the demo was just sitting there for a while and Killer Mike heard it, and then i got a phone call saying he was into it and he hopped on it and sent me his verse.

Dave: Also, I see you have a song with Tori Kelly, called ‘Expensive’ how did that come about?

Daye Jack: She had that song and she was looking for a verse for it, and I heard it through  my publisher and I got into the studio with her, laid down a verse that she was into and that’s how that happened.

Dave: Okay last question, if your were stuck on an island for a year, plenty of food plenty of water to live, but you could only bring three albums, what albums would they be?

Daye Jack: let me think, I’d pick “relapse”… “lord willin” and… “love below / speakerboxx.”

Dave: Cool man, great talking to you.

Finally, Pell came out, the lights went down and the crowd got quiet. Pell brought out his own drummer and did his set with neon lights in the back to go with his dreamy illusion he was going for. He played his hits and the crowd loved him and were singing along and really just hanging a blast.
