On Monday, Mark Ronson and Bruno Mars won “Record of the Year” and “Best Pop Duo/Group Performance” at the GRAMMY Awards Show. After seeing the results go live, Twitter immediately started spreading rumors that Mr. James had received the award as well, but I guess we were all wrong.
According to Complex, the “Record of the Year” and “Best Pop Duo/Group Performance” awards are only given to the artist and producers of the songs, which means his sample on “Uptown Funk” did not qualify him for a win. In contrast, if they won “Song Of The Year,” EVERYONE who contributed to the song would have received an award. Oh well, always next year!
