The best music recommendations often times come from the artists themselves. Last night, I was smoking gas with my good friend and DC favorite Rikki Blu, and was talking to him about his recent show. I love hearing about how his shows go, but often times it’s just his performance I hear about—though last night he made sure to share that he really enjoyed another performer that night by the name of $K.
I trust his ear, so I gave him a listen this morning and ho-lee chit man, this guy is good—like, really good! Over some frantic uptempo production from David Bait on “Who I Am,” $k floats majestically as his sung and rapped bars are delivered with loads of passion and feeling. It’s the only track he has out so far, but is surely one of the better records I’ve heard as of late. It’s got a feel-good groove to it, and I plain haven’t been able to take it off repeat.
