Who are you and where are you from?
I’m China, and I’m from Jacksonville North Carolina, never lived there just born. But shout out to 919 Bullcity and the 910.
What made you want to to start producing?
I always loved music but when my bro Gimere put me on to this Soulja Boy song called “Gold on Deck” and more of his 2013-2014 songs as well as Chief Keef being new to the scene then it was a wrap I felt like I had to become a part of it so I began to research any & everything production related.
How did the Cap$ule Corp collective come about?
I was doing my own thing back in late 2014 still very new to the scene so a lot of niggas won’t tryna fuck wit me, my bro Milan was one of the first producers to ever hit me up on my SoundCloud & felt that we should collab, our first collab was called “Ca$hing” abd after him sending it back to me finished, I knew it was meant to be for us to formulate something new together and we been gold every since.
What producers do your look up to?
I look up to Zaytoven first and foremost because he is the Gucci Mane of producers, in the sense that Zay has created the foundation that birthed many producers and influences. I feel like zay defines what having sauce really is. I look up to Clams Casino as well, of course many producers sample, but Clams just next level with it in my opinion.
How do you feel about the music game right now underground/industry?
Personally I think the underground is filled with a lot of broke niggas & finesses. Underground or industry , this field is a business & a lot of niggas ain’t businessmen. But musically it’s a lot of talent out there, it’s crazy to me how a lot of SoundCloud is becoming/transitioning into industry which can help a lot of niggas truly take it to the next level. I think the underground is a little over saturated right now, and it’s a lot of folks doing it just for attention & clout. I want everyone who truly wants their spot & are passionate about they craft to make it.
Who are some artist you would like to work with?
LAMB$, Maxo Kream, K $upreme, Robb Bank$, Xavier Wulf , Black Smurf, Young Scooter, Soulja Boy, Chief Keef , Jhene Aiko, Young Nudy, Gleechie, etc. — if you about your bread we working.
How did you feel when you got your first big placement?
When I got my first big placement it was a good feeling because at the time I ain’t have nothing going for me, but I didn’t sit on that for long I kept working because I got goals on goals that I’m aiming to accomplish.
Who are some artist that you’ve worked with?
Yung Bans, Playboi Carti, Rich The Kid (Broke Ass), A$AP Ant, ThouxanBanFauni, UnoTheActivist, Juicedasavage, Lil Uzi Vert, D Savage, Famous Dex, Diego Money, and many others.
What do you feel it takes to be a successful producer like yourself?
Stay true to yourself, your craft, and educate yourself as much as possible on the business side as well as have a good entertainment lawyer behind you. You could have the most talent in the game but be broke as hell because you don’t know bout that paperwork and legal measures.
What upcoming projects or songs can we expect from China Town in the future?
Stayed tuned. I have a ton of surprises on the way as well as an upcoming project. You may also catch me on that Playboi Carti mixtape a couple of times.
Do you have any advice you’d like to give any upcoming producers?
To all my upcoming producers I would say know your worth. Producers gotta realize they are 80% of a song and if that artist really want yo beat he will accept yo price. Don’t let a “clouted” rapper messaging you on twitter trying to brainwash you into sending for free. A lot of artist ain’t considering you in the long run so get it while you can.
