One Week Later is a series about giving albums a second serious listen after it’s initial release. Due to the high influx of music that has flooded our personal streams, we thought it would be a great idea to highlight some of our favorites in a more long-ended manner. This week I immersed my ears and mind into Isai Morales’ new album No Place Like Home.

This Dayton, Ohio-native currently resides in Cincinnati, but he’s been sending work out of the Buckeye state for a decade now. There is a relaxed feeling throughout this project, and it truly reflective of Isai’s attitude about life. Morales has taken the time to fine-tune his sound into a futuristic, stoner concerto, attracting new listeners with every drop. Whether he’s producing or getting assists from AirKalo, The Grinde, Malodeseos, 2DeepMusica, Beez#1, Emilio Morales and Crewsheff, he’s here to gift us his humble take on this journey.

The features on here are from Morales’ home team, Novakeng, Jess Gallo and Joei Razook. It just seems like working with these acts converts into the most honest music, and no inhibitions are holding their talents back. “Late In The Evening” with Joei is a different style from both of these artists, but their experimentation pushes the limits to our chagrin. The title track “No Place Like Home” is the most abrasive attitude that Isai gives to us, but he still stays smooth in his refined lane.

Overall, this is one of my favorite projects of the year because of how labor-intensive it was, though it doesn’t sound like it was forced. Isai Morales is just letting all the pieces fall into place until then he’ll be rolling some herb and enjoying the view. Peep his album No Place Like Home Below.
