Detroit’s own Daniel Hex drops his first singles of 2021, and he can’t be stopped. Gaining traction because of his dreamy vocals and forward-thinking production choices, Hex is a standout amongst many contemporary artists. With “Signal Down” and “Sideways”, we get to see his versatility and range.
“Signal Down” is Hex‘s take on the melodic trap-inspired R&B that we all have come to know. Hitting riveting and hypnotic vocal lines, his songwriting is on full display. However, halfway through the track, we get a transition where the vocals become pitched up, and the production gets sped up to match. This adds an exciting dimension to the record that keeps it fresh.
“Sideways” (my favorite of the two singles) is a Bedroom R&B track that has a rocking kick and steady rhythm. Hex finds himself discussing how he hates how his lover looks at him sideways. This track feels like a perfect song to have a Jaden Smith feature on, and he deserves one with this performance. Be sure to check out these singles below!
