New York native Wolfacejoey has remained one of the most fresh and exciting artists in recent memory, and he continues to solidify that reputation with each new release. To kick off 2022, he’s back with an eclectic three-song project titled hues vol. 1. The first in what’s likely to be a series, hues finds the nexus between hip-hop and hyperpop, and the result is a seamless blend between the two.
hues vol. 1 begins with the drum and bass-inspired “i wish it was the same,” produced by wisvoo. The pinkpantheress-esque instruments sounds familiar, but his mellow rapping adds a novel twist. The following two tracks, “tonight” and “lullaby,” see Wolfacejoey going for more melodic trap beats, courtesy of Lulrose and Mike Frost and olivereastonn, respectively. Joey‘s hip hop side comes through full force on these two tracks, and the result is a fully-fledged project that feels so much greater than the sum of its parts.
