Before I start this article, I apologize to everyone who tried to put me on to Tony Shhnow, I’ve been sleeping on him for at least the last two years. As a die-hard street rap fan, I’m not always the best at adapting my taste to other Rap subgenres, but Tony is clearly a 1 of 1 artist, and Reflexions shows that.
On the intro track “Summer Off Relaxxx”, Shhnow rides two beats with two completely different flows. The first beat is a wavy, Cali rap beat with tinges of Motown-inspired bass riffs where the LA native’s sluggish flow makes for a great song to smoke to. Then, the sample changes, nasty 808s roll in and Shhnow slips into a DMV flow.
With hard-hitting, diverse production from SparkHeem, Bear1Boss, FwThis1Will, Poloboy Shawty, Carlo Anthony, and others, Shhnow shows that he can master the best beats out of the Plug/Soundcloud world, DMV, and Michigan. This amalgamation of different styles and influences set Shhnow apart from his contemporaries.
