My mouth was hurting even though I relentless brush and floss with the pic style flossers (you know which ones I’m talking about). Though the dentist’s blunder from a few years back caused me to have to get a filling. I know, tragic to say the least, but here I am fried again hitting these keys to make a few giggles. Blvck Svm – palmangels
Svm is really one of those ones and he dropped off the video for “palmangels” to only further that statement. With lush, airy production, he struts through the auditory night sky with boisterous punchlines. Though the only difference between this man and the competition (other than obvious talent) is the sheer vision he’s had for his art. His EP, Mangelica Mink just hit 10 Million streams and he streams in general better than just about every other independent rapper. All we’re saying is this one is a victory lap, but the games are not close to over.
Tri Nohbi – NEFERTITI
Tri is another Chicago representative with a diverse amount of talent. He meets in the middle of this R&B-infused approach to Rap. This is off his project I Thought We We’re Having Fun, a cornucopia of genres and moods. His voice is rich with baritone prowess but the mood is some high-end music. The video showcases him in the desert delivering his sermon to the masses. Though they might not be yet aware of this man, he’s a rising name to know in a game full of clones.
Justin Michael – Where I’m From
Justin Michael is back on our pages with his cut “Where I’m From”. This southern fusion of alternative R&B is refreshing to say the very least and there could never be any doubt of the genre being dead after listening to this. His tone builds off the production T-Lo has infused. A technicolor moment of soothing vocals but they’re paired with driving kicks and emotional tones of production. Overall Justin snapped on this one because of the songwriting and his true identity that shines through. Don’t sleep on the bro.
Kosha Dillz – Ups And Downs
Kosha makes his first appearance on our pages with “Ups and Downs”. While we see our protagonist take us through a day in life, he also delivers precise punchlines that the golden era listener will love. Though he does a great job of bridging the gap between yesterday to the modern style of rap we hear today. Kosha can rap his ass off and plays by his own rules. This is an authentic look into a NYC cornerstone’s day, don’t miss it.
Blake Banks – Killin’ Time
Blake is back with “Killin’ Time” and it’s astounding the number of styles this man has. Telling us his cousin had to sell Meth to get by was a line that caught our ear but he also chooses bouncy production to pair with his reality. Banks paints vivid descriptions of life but melds it with catchy melodies and percussive elements. This allows the listener to have more of a distinct experience as opposed to peeping on someone else’s tunes. Banks is onto something, don’t sleep.
