Merry Chrimuh lil bih, I hope you’re staying chipper. The year is coming to a close and we are only a few steps away from 2024. Mind mind-blowing per usual but here are some songs I found soothing in the meantime.
chromonicci & Planet Giza – A.S.Y.
chromonicci has been on my radar for a little while now and this cut is a perfect introduction for those who aren’t hip. The percussion provides the heartbeat of the cut but the technicolor vocals are what drive home the brilliance. Subtle lush pockets of vocals work in damn near perfect harmony to build this cohesion. We love it when music is unique and filled with identity and “A.S.Y.” is just that.
Michal Michal – Know Me Better
Michal Michal is back on our pages and his music is so nice you have to say his name twice. “Know Me Better” is a special cut dedicated to a love interest and pairs with some stellar production to showcase his vocal prowess. His pen is lethal and growing stronger with each release proving to the people why they should be paying attention. What we love about this guy is his ability to make tough songs seem effortless. Though they’re not lazy or lackadaisical, Michal just makes it look easy. This one should be in your rotation ASAP, but stay tuned for more from this kid.
Izzy Strigel & Olmos – I wish You’d Never
Izzy Strigel makes her first appearance on our pages with an infectious new cut called “I Wish You’d Never”. This one is brilliantly catchy and showcases Izzy‘s wonderous tone to drive home why its great. Let’s not skip over the fact that she has an incredibly unique tone as well. With production from Olmos, the backdrop is the pristine setting for our protagonist to paint the sky. The melding of creativity between these two does something to the ear. If you don’t believe me, find out yourself.
Sir Louie – Made To Love
Sir Louie is yet another artist making his debut on Chiefers. With this new project called Made To Love we are given sundry of styles to delve into. In just 7 cuts we see how diverse Louie‘s talents are, though each one shines a bit differently. “Positions”, “Wannamove” and “Call Back” all stand out as personal favorites, but the sequencing of these tracks does wonders for the project as a whole. It walks us through different energy levels, moods and waves of sonic bliss. Don’t Sleep on Sir Louie.
Macauley – Sober
macauley was sent to me by a trusted ear, so I had to dive in. Off rip, we’re greeted with uncommon sounds and pitch-adjusted waves, but the tempo runs up our spines. This is a quintessential alternative record, whatever that means, but truly is a great moment from start to finish. The strums of the guitar with uptempo kicks create an aura you don’t hear much anymore. And when you’ve been trained to listen for star qualities like the DC staff has been for years, you can catch on pretty quickly. “sober” is anything but, instead, it encapsulates real artistry and the ability to deliver a hit. Great music is all that matters and macauley is onto something.
