GQ, of 9th Wonder’s up and coming Jamla label, has released his second album, following up on his Death Threats and Love Notes of 2013. The Oakland native has been hyping Rated Oakland a lot, and with good reason. Produced by 9th Wonder, Sinopsis, The Soul Council and including features by Big Pooh, Problem, Halo and others, this album is packed with high quality work.
Many may have previously known GQ as Quentin Thomas for his 2005 championship title he earned with Roy Williams’ UNC basketball team, but now people will have to get used to GQ as the next great Bay Area rapper. From first impression, this album is everything that has been promised, and I expect other listeners to agree. Kick back and dedicate some time to this album because this is one worth listening to closely.
