Yesterday, I stumbled upon Los Angeles rapper Clayton Samus while sifting through KTT as I usually do. Featured on his new tape “Natural“, the thread boasted fresh verses from artists Vince Staples & Pyramid Vritra, both of which I avidly listen to. By now, I expect thorough rapping from VS and PV. They delivered. And I wouldn’t expect them to just hop on a track with any lackluster rapper, and they didn’t. Samus came with the bars and held his own. Also, he certainly knows how to weave his raps around beats with minimal effort, and does it throughout this entire project. A few of my favorite tracks on Natural are: Culture, a phantom, majestic, and vermin. Check out the two aforementioned tracks below and if you like what you hear, click the link to Clayton’s bandcamp and listen to the full project of what he tags as “ambient grimewave hip hop rap”.
