It’s been a little more than a month since East Dallas artist Lord Byron released his newest album Digital CrucifixionMy introduction to his music was Dark Arts Vol. 2, the well-received predecessor to Digi Crux, and follow up to Dark Arts Vol. 1. Every facet of the rapping on DA2 was unlike anything I’ve heard before, which made it clear that the command and style portrayed on that project was unique and belonged to Byron and Byron only. With that being said, Digital Crucifixion is an entirely different monster of music.

In an interview with New York music/artistry blog Born Again New York, Byron described Digital Crucifixion with this quote: “artist of any medium die on the “digital cross” everyday living in this web-based reality so this project is for all of the artist who are pushing boundaries and have fallen under the underwhelming taste of a generic society, this is an ode of sorts.”

You can read that interview in its entirety, here.

That statement holds true throughout the entire album. Enlisted for the production on Digi Crux are producers: Ben Hixon, Sam Crooke, Ohbliv, Tuamie, Brrd, Q1, Foisey, & Lade. They managed to create a distinct field of sounds, each one completely different from the other, but all united by the fact of them being what one could describe as territory ‘rappers’ don’t usually venture into, and if explored, face the high chances of minimal success. But failure isn’t anywhere to be found on the album. Each track, unique and masterfully commanded, is laced with Byron’s vivid descriptions of numerous topics, spat in ways only rap aficionado’s are capable of. Fellow East Dallas rapper Rami, & D.C. rapper Tessuroh are also featured on Digi Crux. So you know, this isn’t a review, it’s more of an introduction. Digital Crucifixion is a dense & carefully crafted project worth a multitude of listens. It’s definitely one of my favorite music releases this year, period. & we all know 2015 hasn’t lacked in the department of supplying music lovers with quality sounds. A (few) of my favorite songs are lice/dame, bellyintro, heaven, & monstrous. Ultimately my word means nothing, so I highly suggest whoever takes their time to read this, to listen to the album for themselves. If you like what you hear, don’t hesitate to purchase the album, and check out the rest of Lord Byron’s catalog. Enjoy
