SoundCloud is finally going to “sellout.”
With their current business structure, without any exchange, labels have — and will — continue to pull their licensed music from their beloved platform, but that may soon cease to exist. Yesterday, an unsigned contract with independent music publisher hit the internet showing that they would finally start paying royalties, among various other topics.
Additionally, the contract also show a double sided subscription plan, with an ad-free option allowing the user to make a choice. The “Additional Services” portion (the paid subscribers) would be allowed to cancel ads, as well as having an unlimited selection of downloading. The contract also indicates that labels could benefit $.18 per user each month if it’s higher than the revenue or sound recording rights.
Although nothing is official yet, expect significant changes to be involved in our favorite streaming platform. Read the contract below and get some of the other shit I left out, it’s actually rather interesting if you’re a music nerd like me.
Enjoy.
