A bill that is currently making it’s way through the California legislature wants to regulate marijuana dispensaries, test weed for safety, and standardize edibles. The bill, which is titled the Medical Cannabis Regulation and Control Act, would create a centralized office of Medical Cannabis Regulation under Gov. Jerry Brown if passed.

If the bill gets passed thorough, it would also establish a Division of Medical Cannabis Manufacturing and Testing and a Division of Medical Cannabis Cultivation.

This all sounds strenuous, but this legislation has something many in the collective community have been asking for:

State licenses for dispensaries.

With federal and local crackdowns on collectives happening daily, this State license would provide the owner with less stress — knowing that they are at least recognized by the state. However, the proposed law says that only dispensaries already approved by their local governments would be eligible for state licenses.

If the bill gets passed, dispensary workers would also have to receive special training under the law, as well. Bonta said in a statement that the bill will “fix a system that has been broken for almost two decades.”

The legislation passed the state Assembly and is currently making it’s way through the Senate. So cross your fingers, stoners.
