Young Cincinnati-native, Chris Crooks delivers a wondrous opus entitled Chess Not Checkers. Teaming up with two Dayton, Ohio producers, Crewsheff and Jacquar937, Crooks bring us 6 tracks brimming with confidence. Throughout all of Crewsheff’s instrumentation, they’re is a soul factor that shines through with every beat. Chris finds inspiration over these samples then re-directs said inspiration to our eardrums. “2001” is a killer, along with “New Faces”, but none of these tracks are lacking. Crooks voice is powerful and smooth at the same time, and his sound is truly developing to great heights with every release. I’m excited to see what Chris Crooks drops off next, stream the EP below.
