Colby Lafayette made a lasting impression on me with his latest EP, So Bad. The multifaceted genre-blending hip-hop artist has had a captivating run of music for the past years. That being said, “Best Guy” is another notch on his belt and a step towards becoming one of the best up-and-coming musicians in this space. On this record, Colby showcases a few laid-back bars with a haunting distortion in the background. This leads into a smooth vocal run that is amplified by the heartfelt confession, “But I’m not the last guy”.
This only scratches the surface on why I found the record so enjoyable. The use of distortion and harmonizers is brilliant, and this is especially true when the female vocalist joins the track. This change of pace allows for a satisfying payoff as Colby returns to with the hook. I recommend you take a listen to this record and find your new favorite musician!
