It is entirely too hard to fathom for this habitual smoker that it has been almost exactly a year since Jacksonville native Dola has found a solo placement on our hazy digital space. The hyped out and trippy visual for “Salutations” being the last time the artist named for “spirits which embody human fate” gave us a certified banger. Yet it is also vital to point out that right before Jesus’ birthday in 2015, Teamsesh producer Ghost/\/Ghoul unleashed the cut “Endor.” That track tapped Dola for a proper feature. Manifesting collaborative foreshadowing for Episode IV: A New Ghost inevitably opened the door for the two to connect on a full EP project one rotation around the sun later.
Where “Endor” sliced open thick downtempo snare and psychedelic modulating synths, Better/\/3D builds upon deeply textured instrumentals and quick snares matching even quicker vocal cadences. The northern Florida representer has been drawing some pretty serious peer comparisons in internet spaces likely not familiar with the Florida wave, which is to say we are confidant in saying Dola is doing his damnedest to swerve into his own sonic lane of aggressive deliveries and vibe-ridden song craft on this statement project.
