In 2019, Domenic Haynes went viral for his audition on The Voice where he performed Leon Bridges “River”. Haynes’ gravelly tone and vocal command were intoxicating and led to him releasing the cover after leaving the show. The track garnered over 1 million views on Youtube and another 2 million on Spotify. However, since appearing on the show, Haynes’ only released a 3-track EP until now.
His newest track “Crazy” utilizes his blues, Motown, and funk influences for easily one of the best tracks of the year. The simple yet spunky guitar riffs marry the singer’s strained vocals effortlessly. On top of that, Haynes‘ lyrics put you in the shoes of someone who’s heartbroken with lines like “I just keep calling for you”.
However, just when you think he doesn’t have any other cards to reveal, Haynes‘ second verse is utterly stunning. He’s able to muster up vocals akin to Louis Armstrong, a feat I’ve simply never heard from any singers of this generation.
Domenic Haynes’ ability to blend several vocal styles together along with excellent writing and a soulful instrumental for something that straddles classic and modern music with ease. Check out the track below.
