Found on the ‘Magic Mike XXL’ soundtrack.
Recently, its been floating around that Donald Glover’s new music may be taking taking a different sound instead of the Childish Gambino feel that fans have become accustomed to.
First, there was his interview in February on the “Today” show: “I want to have periods in my life,” he said. “I feel like Childish Gambino is a period that should come to a close. I like endings.”
Then, earlier this month, at Bonnaroo, the 31-year-old performed a new song that included only singing — no rapping.

His latest release is another suggestion that the Childish Gambino period may have come to a close.
“Marry You,” included on the “Magic Mike XXL” soundtrack, also features strictly singing. On the iTunes listing for the Bruno Mars cover, which is just over two minutes, the ATL native is credited not as Childish Gambino, but as Donald Glover.
Donald Glover, in a recent interview this year said:
“I hope people never thought of it as just like, Oh, that was a phase,” he said. “It wasn’t like I was like, What was I doing? I knew what I was doing, I just — I like endings. I like endings. One thing about this movie that I was like, Oh, this will be cool to be part of, because like, I only want things to go on when they’re necessary. Life has a death clause. Everything should have, sort of a clause of if it’s not growing, then we should progress in a different way. With my music, if it’s not progressing and changing, then I feel like it’s dead anyway.”
“Bringing it back to [’Magic Mike XXL’], this second movie is so different from the first one, but also ties it back in. You can watch the second one and not have seen the first one. It’s a thing where it’s like, progress is key, and that’s what’s most interesting. So, yeah, I kinda wanna let it grow until it can’t grow anymore.”
