Since Drake’s surprise project If You’re Reading This It’s Too Late was released last week, rumors have been going around on whether it was a mixtape or an actual album –which makes things very interesting when talking about Drake’s future with Cash Money. It was released straight to iTunes, but Drake and others have been detailing to the world that it was indeed a “mixtape” several times throughout the 17-track offering.
Now, it seems that we finally have some answers to all the questions buzzin’ around. Speaking with DatPiff’s Kyle “KP,” he relayed some valuable information.
“Originally we were in talks to release it for free… and have DJ Drama host and even make it an official Gangsta Grillz… however the label was not in favor of that and they struck an agreement to release the project the retail route and it would count towards one of his albums. It was a mutual decision since he wanted to give it away. They [the label] said, ‘Hell no,’ not in those words, so they ‘agreed’ to do it this way as a middle ground and it would count towards his Cash Money deal album total. The label had zero input or creative control.”
If these words are true, and IYRTITL really does count towards his album requirement with Cash Money, we can say bye bye to Drake and Cash Money. Damn, Birdman way to fuck everything up.
