Last Friday, history was made as the first OFFICIAL Instagram Live-Stream Contest went underway. After listening to over one hundred submissions it’s safe to say that you ALL came with the heat. However, for this series, I have finally narrowed it down to my personal Top 5 favorite submissions based on a few different criteria:
- Different – did this submission stand out, not only from the other submissions but also from what’s hot right now?
- Potential – did this submission showcase the artist’s potential to grow into something even crazier over time?
- Hard – was that sh*t hard?
So without further ado, allow me to present you with the Top 5 submissions that have officially received the Daily Chiefers Stamp of Approval.
- ZAMINZO
ZAMINZO has taken the underground scene by storm with her SoundCloud debut, “GEEKED (prod. ejcertified).” Not only is this record incredibly different from any underground melodic rap I’ve ever heard, but her ability to seemingly carry the beat under her wing as her flow sits perfectly within the low-end creates a mindboggling experience that quite literally feels like your soul is lifting out of your body if you close your eyes while you listen. This track blew me away for being different, showing INCREDIBLE potential, and for being so Fire for reasons I can’t even clearly transcribe into words. This sh*t just hard.
2. She Loves Boon
She Loves Boon came in strong with their hyperpop single, “for the weekend.” I really enjoyed this record because it was very different from a lot of hyperpop I have listened to; particularly the manic sub-genre that is super distorted and glitchy. This record took all the cool shit that “distorted” and “glitchy” hyperpop has to offer in production and mixed it with an infinitely more palatable vocal bursting with fire melodies, range, flows, and a super catchy hook that embeds itself in your brain off the rip. This submission was hard and I see amazing commercial potential for them to really stick and dominate their own lane.
3. KG The Forgotten
KG The Forgotten pairs up with artists Plug and D1 Rell to crank out this upbeat summertime bop that had me sippin’ a cold beer in a speedboat on the lake with the wind blowing through my hair feeling like, “The Man.” For real, this track has you feeling mad good. Throwing crisp 808s over a ukulele honestly turned out so hard and definitely stood out for me. I see a lot of potential in these three if they continue to keep finding fire ways to be different.
4. Ashoka
Ashoka comes in smooth as f*** with the flow on “Waved (prod. 1995).” The versatility he shows right off the bat is remarkable. With punchy R&B riffs like Bryson Tiller and cold lyrical flows like J. Cole, Ashoka is certainly onto something here. I mean really, this track is undeniably hard. I see unlimited potential in this sound to go super mainstream for him if he keeps flexing how versatile he really can be.
5. SZABA
SZABA didn’t hold back at all on his latest single “Beirut (prod. eros).” With a super ominous tone in the beginning, that initial drop had my hair standing on end. Definitely threw this to the top of my workout playlist right after he sent this in; this sh*t is hard. Without fail, every single listen has you feeling motivated and locked in. Coming in strong at the end of our list, SZABA proves to be super different and outside of the box. I see crazy potential in this dude to completely take charge of this lane.
That concludes this week’s winners for our Instagram Live Series. Thank you all so much for participating! If you missed out or think this is something we should do regularly, leave us a comment on Instagram and let us know! Hope to hear from a lot of you very soon.
