Although often overlooked, Ohio is a state filled with up-and-coming talented creatives of every medium. With artist such as Kid Cudi and John Legend dominating the music industry right now, it is safe to say that The Buckeye state has an immense influence on music right now. But there is a new wave of young, hungry, underground artist coming to the forefront and claiming their spot not only in the Ohio music scene but in the music industry as a whole. Meet The Insomniacs.
After lead talent Lamb$ linked up with fellow Cincinnati, Ohio native and Insomniacs head honcho Midwest Millz a few years, they created the Insomniacs crew, which is now a collective of over 10 talented artist, ranging from rappers, to designers, to their own in house producers, and their main videographer- meets graphic designer SoVisuals. After esembling their squad the crew began to release infectious hard hitting songs and videos that soon got the attention of some of the top artist in the rap world .
The first Insomniac to put his stamp on this industry was Lamb$. After releasing his viral hit Digi Scale featuring J Stash in 2014, Lamb$ joined forces with DJ Osh Kosh of Two-9 to drop the remix which featured Fat Man Key, Reese, Curtis Williams and Tezo. The remix, which was featured on MTV, sky rocketed the Cincinnati rapper to the top of his career. Soon after his talents caught the attention Play Boi Carti, Shy Glizzy, and rising star Lil Uzi Vert, whom he released collaborations with .
With such a huge buzz and fan base around him, it seems as though Lambs has no intentions on letting up any time soon.Fresh off tour with Texas native Maxo Kream, Lamb$ recently released his highly anticipated new EP Fukk Karma II and is now gearing up for his second year performing at SXSW .
But Lambs is not the only artist to pay close attention to in the Insomniacs camp, Midwest Milllz and Rarri are also blazing their own trail in the rap world and doing a damn good job at it . Still fairly new, these two Insomniacs are creating a fan base for themselves on sound cloud with their latest hits like Millz’s contagious singles “Carbon” and “Bubble Eye Benz” and Rarri’s “Call My Phone”. Millz’s is nothing short of a genius when it comes to his play on words and his catchy ad-libs will keep you wanting more, while Rarri’s laid back melodious flow and his quick-witted bars will have you bobbing your head and keeping his songs on repeat.
With so much talent coming out of the Insomniacs camp, it’s hard to over look what these artist are doing and it is apparent that they are creating a lane for themselves in this industry. With no major label backing and a slew of hits under their belts, The Insomniacs are by far the hardest working rappers in Ohio right now. If you have not heard of them before, get familiar now.
