Birmingham, Alabama’s rap scene has grown exponentially over the last five years, going from an almost entirely unknown scene to having a number of exciting new talents knocking on the door of the industry on many different levels. Since first putting themselves on the map Birmingham artists have since derived and perfected their own distinct flow and type of beats that is akin to what a marching band would sound like if formatted on FL, which is incredibly fitting given the prowess of obviously football, but also drumlines in the city of Birmingham and state of Alabama as a whole. Dozens of artists are making their own unique marks on the city and growing their fanbases with each new release, and one of the very most exciting new talents from the Magic City is GMF FatBoy who has been dazzling fans with his endless bag of flows and humorous punchlines that endear him to everyone. He recently came unloaded a new visual to his track “Self-Checkout” which was brought to life courtesy of Niles Bryant can be credited with a lot of the exposure FatBoy has gotten as his channel provided a platform to him much like so many others from this area and beyond, and Niles himself is leveling up with the new animated intro he is flexing at the beginning of his videos. This was also my introduction to GMF ChopDawg who I hope to hear more from this year and clearly has a viable chemistry with FatBoy and I have my fingers crossed for more collaborations between those two.
