Philadelphia’s rap scene has evolved drastically since the sonic shift from rugged street rap to the melodic styles of Lil Uzi Vert and PnB Rock. One of the leaders of this wave is H20 Hadd. Recently, the 18-year-old rapper/singer dropped his freshman mixtape Head Above Water with features from Atlanta’s Chino Cappin and Slimelife Shawty, as well as fellow Philly native 2Raree. Other than Hadd‘s smash hit “Back Then” that blew up back in early 2020, I’d recommend the collaboration with Atlanta’s Slimelife titled “Pass,” and the tape’s lead single, “Icons.” Overall, the tape is great!
