Hawaii Coming Close to Securing Medical Marijuana Dispensaries

Kauai-in-Hawaii

It’s been roughly 15 years since the good people of the Aloha State voted to legalize medical marijuana. During this time, patients that qualified were forced to either grow their own supply or magically hope the marijuana poof’d into their back pockets.

But now we have change…

Thanks to the recent progress of House Bill 321, those same qualified patients may soon have a legal place to purchase their medication. The bill, which was approved by committee on Monday, is now currently at the Legislature where it is projected to be successful.

With that comes a sort of monopolized situation for those rewarded with one of the eight dispensary licenses allotted for the entire state: three permitted licenses on Oahu, two allowed on Big Island, two on Maui and one license on Kauai.

Those lucky enough to get chosen, will be allowed to open two storefronts and two cultivation centers under their state-issued license, which means the entire state of Hawaii would only have a total of 16 medical centers across four islands — which seems kinda ridiculous if you ask me.

For real though, I wish I was one of those lucky 8. Straight bread.
