We are in the final weeks of the year and it’s astounding how fast 2023 has flown by. Yes there has been an abundance of bullshit, but lets try to find some light in a cloudy atmosphere. The music this year has been great despite what the timeline tells you. And below you have a one two punch of new music to hold you over until the next. Stay safe, be well.
omniboi – Panorama
A bit adjacent from what we usually post stylistically, but omniboi‘s new project Panorama showcases some stellar grooves from top to bottom. This EP almost works as if it’s a time machine to yesteryear but flows back and forth to bask in modernity. With assistance from Dona and nelward on the first two cuts, these collabs set the scene for the flow of the project. “Zoom Out” is the standout personal favorite because the instrumentation feels like that of Wave Race 64. But then we flow into the synths of “Cagecraft” which will blow your mind. The vocals throughout this are gentle yet shining nonetheless. A bit all over the place stylistically but still worth the time to delve into. Omniboi is onto something, don’t sleep.
Memoir. – Luxury Freestyle.
Memoir. makes his first appearance on our pages with his “luxury freestyle.” Being pretty upfront with the subject matter is appreciated but bro doesn’t lack confidence. Finding himself with his thoughts and ambition down by the river, Memoir. floats from start to finish. His gold fronts shine as the scripture runs in pristine cadence. Memoir. takes a very melodic approach to his music, but doesn’t sound like a clone of modern rappers. His identity is what made this video and song so memorable not only because of his top-tier talent but because of his sheer fluidty in the pocket. This is some heat, don’t get left behind.
