The Freshmen Class for XXL has finally been revealed, including a few unsurprising names, such as Fetty Wap, DeJ Loaf, OG Maco and Tink, and a couple that seemed out of the blue like GoldLink and Kidd Kidd.

To help promote the cover further and speak on this year’s selection, two of XXL’s staff members, including the Editor-in-Chief, visited The Breakfast Club for a quick interview. While there — and with everyone arguing on who should and shouldn’t have made it, Vanessa did reveal why two seemingly obvious candidates weren’t on the cover.

By the looks of it, OVO reps PartyNextDoor and ILoveMakonnen were uninterested in being part of the XXL Freshmen class, just like their labelhead, Drizzy Drake.

“Nobody turned it down this year, but some funny responses…Not funny, I don’t wanna be weird, but not such responsive responses from the PartyNextDoor/ILoveMakonnen camp. That they didn’t seem so interested, so we didn’t run that lane too hard,” Vanessa revealed.
