Mike Zombie has found his lane and he’s sticking to it. The producer who earned himself alongside Drake on OVO with one single has now grown into a full-fledged artist/producer. Coming out of New Jersey, he’s working on becoming a household name and 2016 has been one hell of a year for him. Daily Chiefers had the chance to talk to Mike Zombie and get to know the man behind the boards.

Dodger: If you could describe your production in three words, what would they be?

Mike Zombie: Ensuing, Unorthodox, Unpredictable

Dodger: Your first hit was ‘Started From The Bottom, how does it feel knowing you created a hit for possibly the biggest artist of our generation?

Mike Zombie: It Feels Great It’s An Honor That Lays On My Mothers Walls That I Can Take To The Grave With Me As Well As A Milestone. Hopefully We Can Do It Again.

Dodger: Was signing to a label always the goal? What made you decide to sign to OVO?

Mike Zombie: Just Working With Drake Was Just A Dream When I Was 18 Getting Familiar With His Music Due To My Lil Wayne Infatuation. But, Signing With Drake Was Inexplainable So It Was A No Brainer At The Time.

Dodger: What’s your favorite thing about producing? What inspires you to keep you making bests?

Mike Zombie: My Favorite Thing About That Is Synonymous To Life. The Ability To Create Something Out Of Nothing Is A Weird Feeling That Every Time You Go To Create You’re About To Make Something Noone Even Yourself Has Done Before. So There’s No Favorite Part The Whole Act Of It Is Exciting.

Dodger: As a producer/rapper, how do you find the balance? Is it easier to produce for yourself than it is for other artist?

Mike Zombie: The Balance Is Easy I Create For Everyone Else First. But That’s Just My Take On A Product From Me To Someone Else. It May Not Always Be Right Of Course But If I End Up Using It I Subconsciously Was Producing For Myself. All In All Though It’s Way Easier Producing For Myself Because The Artist Can’t Always Articulate Exactly What They Hear.

Dodger: What’s your major goal for 2016? And how close are you to achieving that goal?

Mike Zombie: My Goal For 2016 Has Been Reached And That Is To Be Recognized As A Rapper And Artist. Last Year And Prior People Recognized Me As “The Guy Who Produced Started From The Bottom” Which Is A Great Name To Claim But Now Some People See Me As Their Favorite Rapper So The Better Question Is What’s The Goal For 2017.

Dodger: What’s your favorite thing about being in the music industry? What’s your least favorite thing about being in the industry?

Mike Zombie: My Favorite Thing About Being In The Industry Is Always Reassuring Myself That When I Come In Contact With Celebrities Bigger Than Myself How They Work, Listening To What Information They Have To Give And Even So The Opposite To Figure Out What Their Secret Is Which Most Likely Can’t Be Explained. And My Least Favorite Is That I Feel People Are In A Competition In This Industry And Some Can’t Seem To Coexist. Other Than That It’s Not Rocket Science People Are People And Have Their Ways.
