Issa Gold, one half of the cult-favorite duo The Underachievers, has been off the radar for more than a minute now, but it’s been for good reason. He’s back with a brand new single titled “Underwater,” which features from his forthcoming solo project Tempus.

The Underachievers are one of the most prolific groups in rap in our current moment; they’ve released two singles in 2020 and the third installment of their Lords of Flatbush mixtape series in 2019. Their output has been steady for the better part of this decade, but Gold has not truly ventured out as a solo artist until now. And goddamn are the results beautiful.

“Underwater” is a straight vibe, a smoky, dark joint that’ll dig into your brain. His lyricism is at its best, and the production matches it in its quality. We can’t wait to hear the rest of this project, it’ll no doubt be a 2021 highlight.
