Throughout the last year, New York Drill and its many flavors have dominated the rap sphere. On one end of the spectrum, Kay Flock, D Thang, Dougie B, and B-Lovee have served as the linebackers who’ve made way for upstarts like Sha Gz and 41 (TaTa, Jenn Carter, and Kyle Richh).
An off-shoot of their Drill scene are female Drill rappers Murda B, Kenzo B, Shani B, and others. Then there’s Club Drill/Sample Drill, led by Cash Cobain, whose family tree includes Shawny Binladen, Chow Lee, and Lonny Love.
Finally, Ice Spice‘s brand of “Sexy Drill” has dominated in recent months thanks to tracks like “Munch” and “Gangsta Boo” featuring Lil Tjay.
However, Drill’s malleability and continued evolution have brought on a new “House Drill” branch. Since blowing up on Tiktok thanks to a plucky, whimsical beat, Jaypob and Rocky Snyda‘s “Bronxlyn” has been circulating the city and the internet alike. The track was recently previewed on Ebro Darden’s “The Ebro Show” and has racked up hundreds of thousands of streams on all platforms.
This brand of Drill pulls from the eclectic mix of influences stemming from Jay and Rocky‘s visual arts backgrounds. This is apparent in the visual for the track as it is fast-paced, and colorful and reminds the listener that Drill is but a base for a world of artistic expression. Check out “Bronxlyn” below.
