Plenty of Gen-Z artists have taken advantage of this fluidity, but Lul Smoove stands out for the sheer tenderness of his voice. The Oakland native’s delicate delivery is well-suited to both rap and R&B, so it makes sense that his most popular release to date is a remix of Ne-Yo’s lovelorn classic “So Sick”.
On his latest single “Tell Me”, Smoove croons in gentle tones about his damaged family relationships and his yearning to make amends. Over a downcast piano beat from Ant Chamberlain, the 18-year-old’s vocals levitate and lilt with palpable sadness. Check out the AdamKG-directed video below.
