Mac Miller just announced his new upcoming album Swimming, penned for release on August 3rd. His fans must be fucking psyched, especially now after hearing “Self Care” and watching the accompanying visual.
Wow. I’m ready for Swimming. Mac Miller’s new single “Self Care” is a lengthly, 2-part single–with production led by DJ Dahi, Id Labs and Nostxglic. Mac continues to push the envelope forward in terms of his branding, image, and artistry in general. The first half of the song starts off more indie pop/hip-hop sounding and melodic. Mac delivers beautiful vocals and interesting melodies that transitions into an emotion-filled verse with quick speed bars. He continues to drop off ridiculously catchy hooks placed perfectly between effortlessly delivered fast flows with meaningful and metaphorical lyrics. The second half of the song slows down, and almost turns into an R&B outro. His vocals honestly impressed me here, and with every release he really does prove why he’s deserving of being one the most unique and innovative artists of the past ~10 years. Crazy to think Watching Movies with the Sound Off came out 5 years ago. Oh yeah–and not to spoil much of the video, but he’s locked inside a coffin looking box and a bunch of insane shit happens after that. Definitely go listen to the song and watch the Christian Weber-directed visuals above. Fuck yes, Mac is back baby!
