If you’re a real rap music fan, you’re probably aware of Chris Patrick and Marco Plus. A collaboration between these two would really be a dream come true, and they finally dropped it. After teasing the collaboration track back in December, nearly half a year (or five months) later, “Lift Me Up” was officially released.
Both Marco and Chris have garnered some very authentic fan bases. I say this because most artists of their size couldn’t sell over two hundred tickets in their own city, this isn’t to say they should be able to, just to show how different Patrick and Plus really are. Over a harmonic, lofty-sounding flute, Patrick kicks off the song, asking “Shorty” if his “car crashed, would you come pick me up?”, if he was “down bad”, would she come “pick” him “up”. Plus, hops on all philosophical, explaining that his lyrics could “change the world, if” he “could keep it’s attention”, warning that “a lotta n****s raps brainwash you and keep you imprisoned”. Marco is as far away from boxed in as it gets when it comes to introspective lyrics and staying consistently inconsistent with the sounds and music he provides his fans.
It takes a certain type of creativity to make music the way these two continue to, and that’s why a collaboration like this is so special. Taking a trip down Marco or Chris’s discography is like a therapy session with yourself. Atlanta, GA, and East Orange, NJ collided in such a flawless way, make sure to give “Lift Me Up” a listen below and follow @xchrispatrick and @itsmarcoplus on Instagram to stay updated on their careers.
