After what seems like a million years, the city of Miami has finally decriminalized the harmless “drug,” marijuana. By a vote of 10-3, the county’s commissioners approved a bill that turns possession of under 20 grams into a mere $100 fine — or a few hours of Community Service in place of the fine.
That vote only applies to Miami-Dade county, in which Miami exists, so the rest of Florida remains fucked. Like me, I love in Sunrise, so if I had 20 grams or less on me — which I always do — can still get you up to a year in jail and a $1,000 fine.
The new law goes into effect in 10 days. Considering 10% of Dade county’s arrests were made up by minor pot possession arrest, this looks to be a smart move — financially and logically. Yay, go weed!
