You may be wondering who exactly Mndsgn (Mind Design) is, he is a producer from the Philippines who was raised in a forest whose parents were in the Philippine arm of the Aum Supreme Truth Cult, whose venture into terrorist activity caused them to flee the group in the late 1980s. After his family was granted political asylum in the United States they settled in rural New Jersey where Ringgo Ancheta aka Mndsgn was raised on the outskirts of a commune with no electricity while his father was employed as a researcher at Princeton’s Neuroscience Institute.
One of Ancheta’s earliest explorations through the United States was when he hitchhiked from his home in New Jersey to Philadelphia stating “The first guy I met on the street introduced me to the world of music and beat making. Within a day I was making my own beats on his sampler.”
When Ancheta’s trips into the city became more occurring he began moving from his government name and going by Mndsgn which was inspired from Nas’ lyrics, “”my mind is seeing through your design like blind fury.”
The final step to his transformation from a Philippines native to a producer in the United States is now that he has moved to Los Angeles, CA and signed to Stone Throw Records who will be releasing his debut project, Yawn Zen on August 26th.
Mndsgn has stated that his upcoming albums songs were recorded in a state of bliss and says “I’ve allowed myself to study the absence of daily struggle and it’s effects, and began to subconsciously paint that vibe in the music. Yawn Zen comes from a very neutral place that we, sometimes, are too busy to realize is there.”
