In the Summer of 2014 we posted a few of Mirror Muzik Records artist Monk’s stand out tracks that also included label mate Bruno Mali Kidd on a verse. You will likely comb the DC archives for those soon. The sound from the Miami-based artist brought something dynamic to the constant saturation of Florida rap, but nothing could have predicted the artistic growth of the last year that has resulted in the mature song crafting found on “Hustle Hard.” Sharp snare and muted bass on Smash David’s instrumental does not direct the strategic cadence shifts or anthemic hook, that is all Monk’s doing. Careful articulation right out of the gate does however match the haunting synth loop thematically, and what is offered is a pulse of what the rising Miami talent pool is pursuing sonically in the fourth quarter of 2015.
