Nicolay, the Dutch Grammy nominated producer, composer, multi-instrumentalist and one half of the Foreign Exchange, has released the first two singles from his upcoming album, City Lights Vol. 3: Soweto, coming this June on +FE Music.
As an avid listener of The Foreign Exchange’s music, and Nicolay’s solo work as well, these singles have me very excited for City Lights Vol. 3: Soweto. The Brightest Star is like a breath of fresh air in music form. Carmen Rodgers and Phonte add harmonizing vocals over Nicolay’s upbeat and light, but synthy parade of sounds. Afterglow is an non-album B-Side and works a pleasant and calm melodic chaser to The Brightest Star, featuring vocals from Tamisha Waden, Phonte, and Tim Smith on the flute. I’ve been playing these two songs all morning and they serve as a great indication of what to expect from Nicolay’s newest body of work.
