Here’s one thing that we’re sure of, PLAYTHATBOIZAY is a name you will soon be hearing a lot. The budding superstar is the latest cosign of young legend Denzel Curry, who featured the artist on the final track of his 2019 smash ZUU. The two rappers go back a long way. They both grew up in the Carol City neighborhood of Miami and their proximity to one another has fostered an artistic relationship that is producing incredible results. This time it’s in the form of Zay‘s debut EP, GIRLS LOVE VAMPIRES.

Zay effortlessly melds the horrifying, vampiric imagery of Lil Wop with the aggressive punk influences of Denzel and Ski Mask. Two singles were released in the roll out to the EP’s release last Friday. First, there was the hard-hitting “LESTAT” and its cinematic music video directed by RUSTOBLACK and on the day before the EP dropped we got “YA KIDDING ME?”. This was an Alan Alarcon-produced visualizer that plays out like a Ryan Trecartin-directed horror movie. Peep that below.

Zay takes the horror-rap genre and gives it the intelligent, streetwise edge that it desperately needed. All this shows that he’s more than just Denzel‘s protege, he’s a fully formed artist in his own regard and we can’t wait to see where he’ll go.
