Rockie Fresh x Casey Veggies – Fresh Veggies (Mixtape Review)

Casey-Fresh-Art

In 2011,  the un-signed Rockie Fresh and the homie Casey Veggies got together for a collaboration that would end up on Rockie Fresh’s LP, The Otherside Redux. The track was called “Duckin N Dodgin,” and it showed how well the two could sound on a track together. Since then, Rockie Fresh has found his label, and the two have seen their success rise with each release. Life Changes, which dropped earlier this year, was the project that helped Veggies see the the top. As the new year approaches us, the two have come together once again for a 10-track project entitled, Fresh Veggies.

My favorite aspect of this mixtape has to be the production value, which is both cohesive and electric. The project features production from Hit-Boy, Ray Reel, Uncle Dave, and many more. The song that highlights the great production quality has to be “Sacrifice,” the 5th track on the project. “Sacrifice” has video game style to it while maintaining the back bone of what hip-hop entails. Every song seems to have it’s own personality and feel to it. “Aladdin: Interlude 2” for example, has trunk music written all over it, while “You Would Too,” featuring OverDoz sounds like it should of been on Live In Concert.

It’s funny I mention Live In Concert because the tape has a very nice How Fly feel to it. Although the lyrics seem to be on the low-end for both rappers, the production quality makes up for any imperfection that the project has.
