In case you missed it, last week on Pharrell’s Beats 1/Apple Music radio show, OTHERtone, (which featured Q-Tip as a guest) a discussion came about of The Neptunes’ early work. One thing led to another, & Pharrell decided to unearth an unreleased song from 1997 that he and Chad worked on with Tammy Lucas called “Turn Off The Lights”. It was a part of her debut album that was supposed to be released in 1997, but never came to fruition because of the record label (EMI Records) falling through. In an interview from years ago, Lucas claims that there are over 35 unreleased songs that she has with the Neptunes, that Pharrell may release in the future. You can listen to that in full here, if you’d like. Aside from that, this episode of OTHERtone with Q-Tip is one of the best and most informative radio shows I’ve ever listened to. As an avid music & Hip-Hop lover, I thoroughly enjoyed it. Just listening to these podcasts from legends like Q-Tip & Pharrell, is a rewarding experience in itself. You hear so many gems about the times, and music culture that these artists were apart of, as well as being put on to new songs that you may have never heard before. And if you’ve heard the specific tracks that are played, you may catch a nice backstory on how they were created. I’ll end my spill there, so listen to “Turn Off The Lights” by Tammy Lucas below, & click the link to Pharrell’s OTHERtone broadcast with Q-Tip. You won’t regret it. Enjoy!!
