The entire state of Alabama has been on the rise musically over the past decade, seeing Montgomery usher in the trap music era with Doe B, to Mobile’s unique ascension and deep music scene, and with Birmingham developing into a regional force with their own unique sound over the past three years. Alabama artist VD Route is a relatively new face to me that I am already very excited about. He has been quite consistent over the past year, perfecting his sound and image while developing a buzz around his name with frequent video drops, and this week he is back with another titled “Reason.” He recruited Augusta, GA’s TK Kravitz to grace the hook with his melodic charms and Route didn’t miss a beat, fluttering over the instrumental with his uplifting flow and compelling vocal range. I am excited to see more from both of these artists for the rest of the year and hope they don’t take their feet off the gas anytime soon.
