Even before watching the Cameron Nichols directed visual, Goldenboymnny‘s track “Cadet” feels like, as explained by the man himself “a mission to space”. Produced by Ra, 5heriff, and CEO Beatz, the song’s triumphant horns, underlying spacey keys, and scattered hi-hats create a bubbly feel that Goldenboy rides effortlessly. However, as much of a pop-rap record as this is, Goldenboy isn’t shy about his love of all types of music.
“I’m very inspired by Jazz and R&B as well as lots of different kinds of rap. I listen to a lot of instrumentals and alternative music as well. I’m just a music lover in general, so I would say I’m influenced by anything I get the opportunity to listen to,” the rapper explained.
The Chicago native is set to be a part of this year’s Lyrical Lemonade Summer Smash in Chicago alongside acts like Lil Uzi Vert, A$AP Rocky, Gunna, and many others after forging a relationship with Jake and Kayo of Lyrical. When asked about what it felt like to be a part of such an elite group so early in his career, he explained:
“I’m excited and extremely thankful to be a part of something so important to my city and the culture in general. I’ve made a lot of connections the past year, but I don’t speak on what I’m doing much so I know a lot of people were surprised,” Goldnboy explained.
