Chiefer’s Choice is a new weekly post series we are launching today that will drop every Monday. The Chiefer writing team will individually pick their favorite releases of the the previous week and highlight those posts here. Some will overlap and some will be completely different, but Chiefer Choice will reiterate what each of our writers are listening to and feel was the most important from the last 7 days. Take a look after the jump and see our first issue of Chiefers Choice.

J. Cole & Dreamville – Revenge of The Dreamers [Mixtape]

Curren$y – Godfather 4 Ft. Action Bronson (Prod. Nesby Phips)

‘Jamla Is The Squad’ Hosted By Statik Selektah [Stream]

Dale Earnhardt Jr. Jr. – Rush Into Love Ft. Slim (Of 112) & Chuck Inglish

In no specific order, I included the above posts as my favorites of last week being that J. Cole dropped his Dreamville mixtape with no announcements beforehand and also displays a preview of what to expect from his Dreamville label within the new project. Curren$y released a new track off of his upcoming mixtape Drive In Theatre featuring Action Bronson over Nesby Phips production, which is the first leak off of the upcoming mixtape expected out on Valentine’s day. The Jamla Is The Squad album consists of 25 tracks that should not be slept on, this project includes many talented artists from 9th Wonders Jamla label. Last but not least I also included Rush Into Love on my list from an indie group that I’ve never heard of Dale Earnhardt Jr, Jr, (Not the race car driver), this track features Slim of 112 as well as Chuch Inglish and is off of their upcoming mixtape Produce which includes many featured hip hop artists including Murs, Slim, King Chip, Asher Roth, Chuck Inglish, and Quelle Chris.

Homeboy Sandman – Wade In The Water (Prod. Paul White)

Croosh – Cloudless Night (Prod. Danny Dee) [Album]

Spray Lodge – Accept The Unacceptable [Album]

This week I went vocal and local. It’s no secret that Queens emcee Homeboy Sandman has been highly motivated to use his platform as a respected emcee to push awareness on more than a few socio-political issues. Boy Sand doesn’t preach, but he sure as hell will make his valid points known. In between his conscious crusade, he still finds time to drop what seems to be an endless amount of top tier collaborative music that taps dynamic producers like Paul White. This first taste of what will be their full project White Sands continues the Sandman triple play of dropping one-producer albums on the Stones Throw Record name. Florida is home and I often find it necessary to step back from the blog buzz to tap into what the local scene is cooking up. This week has been exceptional, with West Palm Beach’s Croosh finally letting go of his year long labor of love with rising producer Danny Dee. The other coast saw Tampa (although now based out of Korea as an active military officer in the Air Force) emcee Spray Lodge giving us his first real attempt at a full length album. You can read more about everything I found to be dope about this project in and out of context, but if you listen to anything I have posted so far this year, this one is it.

Tayyib Ali – No Other Way

Lupe Fiasco – Thot 97

Marty Grimes Ft. G-Easy – Bang Bang

This week I went with the unknowns. Lupe Fiasco seems to be hiding under a rock somewhere, while the other two artists’ are on the come up. Tayyib Ali, a Philly artist, released a brand new track called “No Other Way.” With a classic sound, Tayyib attacks the track as if he was stuck in 90’s, but still incorporates enough flavor to keep it trendy. If you’re looking for some new music to bump then Tayyib Ali is definitely your guy. Lupe Fiasco came back from the dead with his latest single, Thot 97, a remix to OG Bobby Johnson. I haven’t heard Lupe in a minute so it was refreshing to see him finally put out some material (Of which he always destroys). Last but not least, and probably my favorite of all three, is the track by Marty Grimes and G-Easy.  Marty Grimes, a rapper from Berkeley, CA entered the rap game with his first single, “Bang Bang” which features the homie G-Easy. Although Marty does his thing, G-Easy takes the cake on the 16’s, but nonetheless, still a dope record.
