Q Da Fool
Location: PG County, Maryland
Maryland is a budding hub for an array of talent but two main sub-genres dominate, a more eclectic and musical style of rap from the likes of Goldlink, Chaz French and Matt McGhee, as well as the trap/drill sound headed by names such as Yung Gleesh, Fat Trel, Big Flock and one of our pick for 2018, Q Da Fool. Q has quickly risen to becoming the forerunner for the DMV trap sound. His buzz within the DMV is undeniable as his look and lyrical content are so unapologetically Maryland. He’s received cosigns and features from preceding rappers in his sub-genre such as Fat Trel, Big Flock, Shabazz, and WillThaRapper, and is admired by all the up and coming rappers in the region. He gets roughly 31,000 streams monthly on Spotify and has a collaborative project with rising A$AP affiliated producer AR coming soon. At the young age of only 19, Q boasts a great deal of potential and stays as a topic of conversation in the DMV and across the country. – Bel
When Q Da Fool was released from behind bars earlier this year, he swung for the fences and never looked back. He dropped the visual for the infectious “Right There” the day after getting out, which skyrocketed passed a million views on Youtube faster than any record of his before (he only had one million-view video before that). Q has since dropped mixtape after mixtape of heat, with tons of hard-hitting bars and catchy hooks throughout. The realness and grit of his music is matched only by his personality and flair, as he’s one of the most live and entertaining artists in each of his music videos and performances. There have been several rumors about him potentially signing to D.C.’s musical juggernaut Jefe (aka Shy Glizzy), and the two were even seen performing together at one of Jefe’s recent shows. While I’m positive he has nearly every major label on his tail, it would be an interesting dynamic to see him link up with Glizzy officially. Either way, we’re sure Q Da Fool is set to be one of the biggest artists the the DMV has had in years. – Hef
