If you’re even a casual fan of West Coast hip-hop, than you’re at least semi-familiar with polarizing rap figure, Drakeo The Ruler. Known as one of the leaders of this current Los Angeles Rap renaissance, Drakeo has been gaining all of this attention while fighting a fraudulent case behind bars.
Never one to let the moment pass him by, Drakeo has kept a presence in hip-hop and social media during this time, teasing upcoming collaborations with various artists. Of the bunch, he releases the most anticipated one, enlisting Earl Sweatshirt and 03 Greedo for the remix to “Ion Rap Beef.”
Kicking off with a verse from Earl, in the vein of the minimal production style that he’s been seen co-signing, the eager lyricist immediately lets you know how he feels starting the song off saying, “Fuck the DA, free The Ruler.” As the beat drops, Earl, Drakeo and Greedo take turns tearing apart the JoogFTR production, providing clever flexes and and engaging bars about not dealing with these, “actors” in Hip-Hop. With Drakeo and Greedo both currently serving stacked sentences for different accusations, it’s inspiring to see how they’ve kept their heads during this time. It’s also something to see with Earl, who has went through his own turmoil releasing music, lend an olive branch to a couple of fellow Angelenos.
